We started life in 1975 as the Standing Conference of Archaeological Unit Managers, before changing our name to FAME in 2008, to reflect more closely our purpose and membership.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
To promote a business environment where archaeological organisations operate safely, sustainably and for public benefit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
FAME’s objective for 2024-25 are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Advocacy<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n 1. CDM regulations \u2013 respond on behalf of archaeology to the anticipated 2025 review. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Member consultation underway – responses being given in November (24).<\/p>\n\n\n\n 2. Archives \u2013 push for the publication of the legal advice on Transfer of Title, and supporting documents, by Historic England.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Announcement coming soon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n 3. Representation of development-led archaeology at all national Governments in UK and Ireland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n FAME is now on the Scottish Strategic Archaeology Committee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Health and Safety<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n 4. CSCS cards: <\/p>\n\n\n\n update coming soon<\/p>\n\n\n\n i. Push for acceptance of archaeology as a construction activity by CSCS\/BuildUK\/CECA etc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n ii. If successful, then setup an archaeological CSCS card.<\/p>\n\n\n\n 5. Publishing\/revising of FAME Health and Safety Guides: Commercial sustainability<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n 6. Contract management for archaeologists \u2013 provide training\/advice & Technical Advice Notes for business practice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n 7. Employment law \u2013 update members on changes in the law for 2024\/25.<\/p>\n\n\n\n First update has gone out.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n 8. Lead on adequate charge out rates and profit levels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Environment sustainability<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n 9. Finish and publish the Archaeology Carbon Calculator.<\/p>\n\n\n\n 10. Provide advice\/training on and promote the use of the Archaeology Carbon Calculator.<\/p>\n\n\n\n 11. Research and disseminate findings – what does PAS2080 means for the sector?<\/p>\n\n\n\n Facilitating Innovation<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n 12. Research member awareness of AI and what they believe the impacts will be.<\/p>\n\n\n\n 13. Public benefits (how to engage communities on development-led project) – facilitate best-practices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n 14. Archaeological science, research and disseminate findings \u2013 how can new innovations in \u2013 biomolecular and social innovation, scientific dating and science communication \u2013 support our members.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
